Martin Muhimba
I have faced several obstacles in my life, and I believe these challenges were meant to strengthen me, as obstacles are a part of the human experience. One of the most difficult moments was losing my beloved mother, who was the true foundation of our family. Although our father was there, life completely changed after her passing. I can say that I was once dependent on others for everything, but after her loss, I had to learn to take care of myself and provide for my own needs.
Through this experience, I learned that every person is a witness to life and that we are all given a chance to survive within a time that is uncertain and mysterious. I learned the importance of doing something meaningful for both the present and the future. I learned to struggle for my family, constantly encouraging myself to achieve more. The main lesson I’ve learned is: "Never give up."
I also remember the trip from Dar es Salaam to Moshi when I was about to join Moshi Technical Secondary School for my advanced level education. My junior mom, who took a grant, paid for my travel expenses, even though I was old enough to report to school on my own. She went out of her way to accompany me by private car, which surprised me greatly. I truly owe her a debt of gratitude, and I am determined to repay it. I also owe a debt to the School Fund, which has supported me endlessly with love, courage, and guidance. To be honest, I feel that not repaying this debt would be unforgivable, as their support continues to inspire me to work hard and strive for my goals.
On 9th September 2024, I completed my pre-army training. It was a period filled with harsh treatment, hard work, exercises, punctuality, and discipline. This experience strengthened me significantly. I learned that to be a responsible man or woman, one needs to make sacrifices, maintain self-esteem, be self-aware, and ensure that plans are followed through. We used to sleep only four hours a day, which taught me that laziness and unnecessary sleep lead to poverty. Time, once lost, cannot be regained.
During my school years, I was the leader of a small group of 20 people, and my slogan was "assertiveness." I received a lot of appreciation from my friends, some of whom are now in different universities and pursuing various courses. Some of them regret losing our close company, as we lived in peace, love, and dignity. I am proud to say that I accepted the responsibility of being a good leader.
As the leader of that group, we were able to help each other pass the advanced level exams with division one and two marks under my supervision and teamwork. I even helped the last student in the class to achieve a passing mark, and he is now a university student. This success was not just because of our ability, but by God’s grace. We did our best, and God did the rest.
