Lenah Omagwa
I am the first born in our family and have seen what they go through, especially my parents. They struggle hard to help me continue with my education. My father, who is a watchman, which is a tiresome work, stays all night working in order to provide for us. Our mother, who is just a housewife, is unable to provide for us financially. Despite all this, we have so far made it through and I'm proud to be a student in the university.
My difficult Experience is during this period of my studies. I lack enough funds to see me through. I have faced vast challenges due to this. For example, when I have a class at 10.00a.m., I need to prepare myself to go to school by commuting. On my way, I face heavy traffic and fears of accidents and mugging as I maneuver through slums. This has led to disadvantages which include arriving late at school. My parents cannot afford to pay for the hostels. This means that I always have to commute from home to school. In addition to these, I have morning allergies which I need to battle with. Through these experiences, I have learnt never to give up in life.
It was when I was in High school sitting for my final exams, at that time everyone was anxious but I kept telling myself that no matter what came my way, I would surpass to the end. I later finished my examinations successfully and eagerly waited for my results. When the results were out, I received mine and it was not my expectation. It however enabled me to enroll in the university. It was not just a university but one of the top ranked universities in the country. I encouraged myself that even if my high school grade was not that satisfactory to me, I would do my best to prove odds wrong.
My most memorable and happiest thing in my life is to be part of WEF. When I joined this organization, I was happy because I knew it would help my Academic journey. Since then, I kept working hard to achieve my goals and never to disappoint the organization for the aid they have given me. I thought that my dreams were shattered due to lack of school fees but when I became part of them, I was so excited and expressed my utmost gratitude to them. From their help, which included talks that motivated young people and other useful aids, I opened a new chapter of my life.
My dream is not what I want to become in the future but to become a better and great person by telling myself not to look back at yesterday but to think about my tomorrow for today has one zero (0) but tomorrow has three zeroes thus tomorrow determines my future. I need to amend the mistakes I have made and to overcome what comes my way. I also need to work not only hard but smart.
To my family, I will become the game changer by relieving them of the financial burden I have seen them going through for the lack of formal employment. I will help in many ways such as providing support to the community by encouraging them never to lose hope in life no matter what they pass through because the beginning always has an end. To WEF, as a member that has benefitted from them, I would encourage the young people to be part of the organization. I will always be one of those people who would support the organization in ways that I can.
I will put up many organizations in the country to help many who are in need not to suffer what I went through. These organizations such as WEF will help students to continue with their education and later pursue their careers so as to reduce the suffering in the country making our country better. More people will be educated and everything will have a fresh start.
