Vincent Musyoka
My name is Vincent and I am currently a student at Pwani university in my first year. I’d like to describe myself as a hardworking person who believes in discipline in all fields and a go-getter as well.
The moment I felt proudest of myself was actually when I heard about my good performance in the primary national exams. The most interesting part was the look on my family's faces. Seeing them excited and how they looked at me with joy really made me feel proud of myself.
Like any other human being, I've also had my share of difficulties in life. My most difficult experience was when I was in form 4. I had a really terrible start to my form 4 where I got sick and was diagnosed with bell palsy. I missed around 3 weeks of class visiting different hospitals while my friends went on with their studies. I had to attend physiotherapy sessions throughout the year and this meant I had to skip so many classes and had to put that extra effort into recovering what I had missed. One thing I learnt was that your family will always be there to support you and that god is always in control.
My dream is to venture into the technological world and I work towards becoming an IT expert. After getting my degree I'll continue and pursue a master degree in IT and possibly a PhD. I have always had the ambition of giving back to my society and the World Education Fund (WEF). I'd partner with WEF and create an organization that will support all students passionate about technology. I’d also organized forums and seminars that will impact technological skills to learners so that many may train and acquire technological skills from a young age.
If I had the power to change anything in my country, it would be the leadership system of Kenya. I believe the country's leadership has failed us big-time. Politicians are so kind and humble during their campaign rally; they come up with manifestos that are really appealing to a citizen's eye. They promise to do things that will make Kenya move forward but once they ascend to power everything changes. They forget all that they promised and seat in their offices squandering government revenue. Most of them are selfish and they think about themselves when it comes to development plans. I would like a system where selfish people do not qualify for those positions and do not even make it to the ballot and where organizations that monitor government offices are serious with their work.

Well ever since the school calendar was abruptly changed by the Ministry of Education, school has never been the same again. Pressure has immensely been building up. The pressure to understand fast while teachers teach, the pressure to cover the syllabus in good time so that time for revision can be created. There is a lot of content to be captured in all the eight subjects but the time allocated is really minimal, given that I am supposed to sit for my first KCSE paper in 30th November.
As for my part I am really giving it all that I have, I mean three months before the final exam is no joke. I try being present in all classes both physically and mentally and ask for help whenever I feel I did not get the concept. My teachers deserve all the credit for they have sacrificed a lot including teaching in off-class hours. They come to class at nights and wake up very early at 4 a.m. to teach. Like I mentioned earlier there is a lot of pressure but I am trying my level best to handle it.
A round of applause to our parents too for all the support they have given us. They give us moral support on how to live right. They provide for us each day making sure we do not go to bed hungry. They also provide us with what we need in order to excel in life (talk of guidance, education materials like books, pens and the rest and they also remember us in prayers). Life would be nothing without them.
There is no way I can forget about U-Tena in partnership with APHRC. They have given a great push in our studies. The after school support Programme that they initiated was a great help to us as it helped us students share what we learned in our schools. The mentorship sessions that they hold give us a lot of inspiration to become great and also do great. The sessions have also equipped us with skills and ways of sorting or dealing some of the problems that we face as youths.
I would not finish without acknowledging World Education Fund for all the financial aid they have given us. By paying our school fees they have taken a great load off our parent’s shoulders. Personally I promise not to disappoint you guys with my performance in the final exam. May the Almighty father bless you abundantly so that you might help other kids in need of financial help in matters education.
Thank you once again.
