Marina Lwambano
I am the second born out of three children in our family, I have an elder brother who is an engineering student graduate looking for a job. My 6th grader baby brother will complete his primary studies soon. I have faced a lot in my life, good and bad, but it all led to where I am today. I don’t regret anything.
The most difficult experience I had was when I was told not to take law studies since the number of jobless lawyers is high. I had to apply for something else but it turned out to be one of the best choices I made. I learned that I don’t have to be a lawyer to liberate and help people, especially women and children. That’s what made me cling to being a lawyer in the first place.
I was happy when I succeeded in my studies, but I am really proud of what I acquired in school. It shaped me into who I am today. My life-long dream is to change people around me for the better and to bring positivity in things. It’s actually harder than it sounds and with a single mistake, you can cause more harm than good. Through it, I finally understood why a person has two ears and one mouth: “one needs to listen more than to speak.” Career-wise I want to be a project planner.
Actually I don’t have to reach my dream in order to give back to my family and community. I use everything I have and I am today to give back to my community and family, by volunteering and also engaging in different activities. Reaching my dream will boost me up to do much more than am I doing today.
I would like to help people see that change is within oneself and if it’s a different like one needs, it’s what one should be working on: self-realization. Who you are? What you want? Why do you want it? And how you’re going to get it? Those are the basis of change and I hope I can be competent and tolerant enough to help people achieve it, hence making a change.
