Esther Malogo
I am the second child in our family and I live with my mother and brother. My father died five years ago. My mother is a farmer and conducts a small business making and selling soap. Through those activities, she gets the income we use for our family and school expenses. My brother has completed his university program this year and now looking for a part-time job while waiting for the license exam. He is a pharmacist. I am a second-year student in the courses of nursing and midwifery.
My most difficult experience is the loss of my father, the most difficult thing ever to happen to me. I learned from this that life is short and you never know when you are going to die. We have to use the time that we have effectively and to be thankful for each and every chance we are given.
We once met with the leader of our region as well as members of parliament to talk about the girls’ issues, especially about the nutrition problems that girls face. I was the main speaker. The event went well. I was selected to become an advocate for girls in the Girl Guide association. It made me feel proud of myself. Also in my field of nursing, during the practice of midwifery activities, I helped a women to give birth. It was so amazing as it was my first time. I felt so proud.
My most memorable and happiest thing is when I was selected to join the university. I struggled a lot to get the courses I wanted so when I was selected, I was happy. I see it as the road to fulfill my dreams. My dream is to become a nurse, not only a nurse, but a great one. I will study hard as well as doing a lot of practice in hospitals so as to be competent in my field.
After I reach my dreams, first I would like to help my mother. She struggled so much for us. I want her to live in a better place and have a great business that will give her a good income. Also I wish to help people because I have been helped to reach where I am today. I would like to see more needy people reach their dreams, as well as my fellow students in WEF’s School Fund.
I would like to give opportunity to students in difficult situations, especially those in university, to just study without worry about school fees. I have witnessed fellow students fail to continue because of lack of school fees. Also, in my field, I would like people to get medical services at low cost. There are certain services which require lot of money and lack of money will hinder him/her to get the treatment so this is among the things I would like to change.
