Joanne Wanjiku Waweru
I grew up in Nairobi in a modest family where I learned responsibility early by balancing school with helping at home. Living in a city rich in culture and close to renowned destinations like the Nairobi National Park sparked my interest in tourism from a young age.
One of my most difficult experiences was continuing my education during financial challenges, which taught me resilience, discipline, and focus. Despite these obstacles, I worked hard and improved my academic performance, a moment that made me especially proud.
My happiest moments come from seeing my mother hopeful and proud of my progress when I joined university.
I am currently pursuing Tourism Management, and my dream is to build a career that promotes sustainable tourism and creates opportunities for young people in my community.
If given the chance, I would work to make tourism more inclusive and beneficial to local communities. I believe that success comes to those who stay determined despite the challenges they face.
