Amos Charles
When my father passed away while I was in standard three, my studies became difficult. I had to help my mother by engaging in small business activities to afford school necessities like books and fees. This decision, while necessary, took time away from my studies. From this experience, I learned that students from low-income families face significant challenges and need more support to achieve their dreams.
A breakthrough moment came when I was in A-level at Karatu High School. Receiving support from The School Fund, which provided school fees and tuition assistance, was both surprising and life-changing. This support motivated me to work even harder in my studies and inspired me to appreciate the power of community support.
The death of my father was a life changing event that changed my life. Before his passing, I heavily relied on his support, especially for my studies. Losing him forced me to become independent and take responsibility for providing for my family's basic needs. This experience reshaped my thoughts and vision, motivating me to take proactive steps for my future and contribute to my community.
As a leader, I have made a positive impact in my school and community. My leadership encouraged environmental preservation through afforestation projects both in school and in the surrounding areas. Additionally, I dedicated time to teaching kindness, such as helping the sick and providing assistance to impoverished families. These experiences have deepened my understanding of empathy and service, shaping me into a person committed to uplifting those in need and fostering change through active involvement.
