Emmaculate Omondi
My family is extremely needy. Hence, at a tender age, I grew up lacking basic needs; food, decent clothes, shelter, medicine, and learning materials. We would go without food for the whole day, wear torn and patched clothes, and grow up not knowing about Sunday best clothes. we would stay home for an extended period of time because my parents could not provide learning materials and pay the required amount. We would frequently be locked out of our house because we could not pay our house rent, which was always in arrears.
The most challenging experience I had in my life was in January 2023, when my mother could not afford to keep us in a private school; therefore, she decided to move us to a junior public school. She went looking for a school for 2 weeks without success, and eventually, when she secured a place at Star of Hope Junior School she fell ill, and she was diagnosed with pneumonia and malaria. Our interview had to wait for her recovery since our dad did not show any interest in the process. When our mother finally recovered and took us to the interview, we had already lost 2 weeks of learning. We learnt that perseverance and patience pay off, and in life, consistency and resilience are needed for you to achieve anything in life.
After working so hard and smart for the last 9 years, I felt proud of myself by the grades that I achieved (ee1) with 63 points.
The memorable and happiest thing in my life is when I sent my assessment number to confirm my senior secondary school. I was hoping to be offered admission to Koru Girls High School when I did further research of the information I got about the school, the physical structure that I saw behind the historical data of the school, made the day memorable it is the senior school of my dream.
My dream in life is to be a pilot. I will only achieve my dream by working hard and smart which will enable me to maintain my grades towards my chosen pathway (STEM).
Once I achieve my goal, I will be able to support my family by providing them with basic human needs. I will also strive to support my 2 younger siblings. I will start, together with other friends a community mentorship program for girls. I will contribute a share of my income to World Education Fund, and on a larger scale, I will get friends who believe on the same course to fundraise for the World Education Fund for sustainability.
If I had the power to change my country, it would be the perception political leaders have about power, wealth, and corruption. They believe that they can only be elected when they have a lot of wealth, which is acquired through bribery. The more corrupt a leader is, the more they are worshiped.
