Esther Shinaka
I've gone through a challenging situation, but I believe I'm able to talk about it.
Experiences I've had in my life is having a violent father who doesn't care about my basic needs. He comes home very late, drunk, and starts shouting and calling us names, including my mother. With the little money earned, he buys alcohol, therefore forgetting about our needs. Leaving him is a tough decision because the little he deserves is what keeps us moving. What I've learnt from this experience is that I should not give up because I'm the only one who can change my situation and my mother's.
A moment when I was really proud of myself is when I was able to achieve my goal and even got an award for it.
One thing I always remember, and I'm pleased about is, I was really poor in math, and no one wanted to help me but my mother was always there ready to help even though she didn't understand everything. She walked with me every step of the way until I improved.
My dream is to become a successful nurse and help the sick and others who I can help. I'm going to achieve my dream goal through hard work, your support, and my determination. I will work smart to make sure I achieve my goal.
Once I achieve my goals, I will take my family out of poverty. I will also help my community by helping children like me to achieve their dreams. I will also help WEF by donating funds.
If I get a chance to change anything for the better, I will do it with all my might. I will use all the resources available to achieve my dream.
A motivation that always keeps me going is that I never judge anyone because of their background, my background doesn't determine my future and also with time, a piece of charcoal can turn into a shiny diamond.
