I come from a family of 9 members, where we have strangled with poverty, this experienced forced me to learn to depend on myself at a very young age. It also forced me to grow up too fast, to constantly worrying about things no child should have to worry about, like where the next meal will come from or whether they’ll be able to stay in school.
Resilience and early maturity. Growing up in a family of nine under poverty means you likely became a caretaker, a problem-solver, and an adult in many ways long before you were chronologically an adult.
The moment I felt proud of myself is when, yes, I straggled with early education but in one way or another I was able to get to university level where in my family no one was able to reach to that level.
The memorable moment that made me happy was when I was graduating for my first degree, my parent and my village people were so happy. This made me feel so proud of myself to have made my family proud and myself.
My dream is to complete an education that was once nearly impossible. I would get there with stability and peace—a life where food, safety, and rest are never in question.
Family- I will support my family with financial resources and scarcity will no longer be part of the family anymore. Community - I will give back to the community by helping learners who are unable to access quality education by making sure that they have gone back to school. I will build up programs that supports families which a child headed, to make sure those children have gone back to school and their getting adequate support, psychological support, Emotional support and financial support. WEF- I would increase the number of students that are supported and I will be able to support those learners. building up other programs that will favor the WEF students.
If I had the power to change my country, I would do the following:
• Education system - build up education that every child is able to access with or without the money.
• Heath care system - The health care system in is deteriorating where Kenyans a not able to access quality services due to poor systems that a not functional.
• Pay slips - in Kenya, those employed there is no sanity in their pay slips, when you earn more money, it means less take home which really drains those in employment.
